Description

This design note describes a 36 watt, Type Cinterface PD3.0/QC3.0, universal AC input,constant voltage power supply intended forsmart phone, PAD and NB adaptor supportingPD3.0 and QC3.0 protocol, where isolation fromthe AC mains is required, and low cost, highefficiency, and low standby power are essential.The featured power supply is a simple QRFlyback topology utilizing ON Semiconductor’sNCP1340 HF PWM controller, NCP43080synchronous rectified controller and NCP4371QC3.0 protocol controller combined Cypress’sCCG3 PD protocol controller. This Design Noteprovides the complete circuit schematic detailsand BOM for 36W Type C InterfacePD3.0/QC3.0 adaptor solution which supportsPD output (5V-9V/3A, 15V2.4A and 20V/1.8A),QC2.0 output (5V/3A, 9V/2.67A, 12V/2.67A)and QC3.0 output (4V-8V/3A, 8V-12V/2.67A).This design combined with NCP4371 andCCG3 to support QC3.0 and PD3.0, QCprotocal is transferred by CCG3 and sent toNCP4371, PD protocal is transformed to QC3.0protocal and sent to NCP4371 to change outputvoltage. NCP4371 provides QC protocaldecode and CC/CV control.This design also proposed a dual auxiliarypower supply solution that low voltage Vccsupplies to controller in low output and highvoltage Vcc supplies to controller in high outputalso shut down the zener bias of high voltageregulator in order to increase the efficiency.
