Description

The MCP1726 is a 1A Low Dropout (LDO) linearregulator that provides high current and low outputvoltages in a very small package. The MCP1726comes in fixed or adjustable output voltage versions,with an output voltage range of 0.8V to 5.0V. The 1Aoutput current capability and low output voltagecapability make the MCP1726 a good choice for newsub-1.8V output voltage LDO applications that havehigh current demands.The MCP1726 is stable using ceramic outputcapacitors that inherently provide lower output noiseand reduce the size and cost of the entire regulatorsolution. Only 1µF of output capacitance is needed tostabilize the LDO.Using CMOS construction, the quiescent currentconsumed by the MCP1726 is typically less than140µA over the entire input voltage range, making itattractive for portable computing applications thatdemand high output current. When the MCP1726 isshut down, the quiescent current is reduced to lessthan 0.1µA.The overtemperature and short-circuit current limitingprovide additional protection for the LDO during systemfault conditions.
