The R5973AD is a step-down monolithic powerswitching regulator with a minimum switch currentlimit of 1.8 A, so it is able to deliver up to 1.5 A DCcurrent to the load depending on the applicationconditions. The output voltage can be set from1.235 V to VIN. The high current level is alsoachieved thanks to an HSOP8 package with anexposed frame, that allows to reduce the Rth(JA)down to approximately 40 °C/W. The device usesan internal P-channel DMOS transistor (witha typical RDS(on) of 250 m) as a switchingelement to minimize the size of the externalcomponents. An internal oscillator fixes theswitching frequency at 500 kHz. The largeambient temperature range makes it ideal foraerospace and defense applications. A pulse-bypulsecurrent limit with the internal frequencymodulation offers an effective constant currentshort-circuit protection.
