The Pull-Up is a resistor used to ensure a readable state for the GPIO-Pin of the microprocessor. Together with the filter capacitor, this component is decisive for the edge rise time when the switch is triggered.
No application works without integrated circuits - no integrated circuit works without peripherals.
In most cases, the signal path from the switch to the microprocessor is single-ended and therefore susceptible to interference, especially with longer singal lines. SMD ferrites offer a simple way of attenuating differential mode noise.
Our switches are characterized by performance stability and long lifetime. All metal elements are corrosion resistant proven by a 48 hours salt spray test. Polyimide tape or silicone rubber protect the switch even in rough environments.
Optionally, the metallic housing of the switch can be connected to ground. This enables higher immunity from ESD.
ESD protection devices should be put right behind the switch. Keep signal paths short and avoid layer hops to prevent propagation of the ESD pulse.
The filter capacitor in this circuit fulfills two tasks. Firstly, it forms an LC filter with the SMD ferrite for differential mode interference. Second, it is responsible for debouncing the switching contact. For dimensioning, we recommend our Support Note 015 - Contact debouncing circuit for switshes.
Switches and buttons in the control panel are susceptible to interference due to their exposed installation position. The block diagram shows a standard protective circuit for ESD, EMI and contact bounce.
