Description

This reference design provides a simple means through which to isolate I2C or SPI type communication lines. This is often required in Grid Infrastructure applications such as, protertion relays and circuit breakers, where high voltages are involved. This reference design provides the complete solution in which, both power isolation and signal isolation is handled

• Multiple approaches for generation of isolated power supplies for analog input, binary input, and communication module using transformer driver, power module, or isolated DC/DC
• Use of isolated DC/DC converter simplifies systemdesign, provides flexibility in configuring the output, and improves reliability
• Multiple approaches for generation of isolated power supplies for analog input or output module including split-rail power supplies using a DC/DC converter and LDOs, Fly-Buck™ converters, splitrail DC/DC, and LDOs
• Synchronous SPI interface using digital isolator and I2C interface using digital isolators with bidirectional SDA and unidirectional SCL
• The boards are tested for the EMI pre-compliancerequirement and the EMC pre-compliance by interfacing to the TIDA-00227 design
