The XR79206 is part of a family of 40Vsynchronous step-down power modulescombining the controller, drivers, inductor,passive components and MOSFETs in a singlepackage for point-of-load supplies. Thismodule requires very few external componentsleading to ease of design and fast time tomarket. The XR79206 has load current ratingof 6A. A wide 5V to 40V input voltage rangeallows for single supply operation fromindustry standard 24V ±10%, 18V to 36V andrectified 18VAC and 24VAC rails. With aproprietary emulated current mode ConstantOn-Time (COT) control scheme, the XR79206provides extremely fast line and load transientresponse using ceramic output capacitors. Itrequires no loop compensation, simplifyingcircuit implementation and reducing overallcomponent count. The control loop alsoprovides 0.2% load and 0.1% line regulationand maintains constant operating frequency. Aselectable power saving mode, allows the userto operate in Discontinuous Current Mode(DCM) at light current loads significantlyincreasing the converter efficiency. A host ofprotection features, including overcurrent,over temperature, short-circuit and UVLO,help achieve safe operation under abnormaloperating conditions. The XR79206 is availablein a RoHS-compliant, green/halogen-freespace-saving 10mm x 10mm x 4mm QFNpackage.
