The recent GaN technology can operate at very high frequencies and deliver major efficiency gains. When used with optimized controllers, this wide bandgap material can significantly reduce the size of auxiliary power supply units (SMPS), including quasi-resonant flyback converters ranging up to 100 W.

STMicroelectronics and Würth Elektronik experts will cover the basics of flyback converters and introduce you to the most recent GaN-based auxiliary converter designs and their main benefits. You will also learn how to reduce the size and improve the characteristics of on-board magnetics and eliminate or reduce the heatsink.
