Design of the MDI for Power over Single Pair

When designing a complete solution of SPE, a structured approach is extremely important. This can ensure space, weight and cost reductions of over 50%.This presentation will demonstrate the approach to designing an interface for Single Pair Ethernet with and without Power over Single Pair and explain the necessary steps. The first thing to consider when designing is whether Power over Single Pair is desired. If a pure data transmission is planned, an extremely compact design can be created. However, if additional power transmission via SPE is to be present, other components must be used. This is because using the passive components that are also used for SPE without power transmission would result in a weight and cost increase by a factor of two. By an intelligent choice of the filter components, an optimal circuit can designed for a single pair Ethernet interface without or with additional power transmission, which meets all the required criteria.

After the presentation, the circuit designer is able to independently create the optimal solution for him using simple steps.
