Würth Elektronik Funds New eSports Program at Local College

Würth Elektronik has long been a supporter of engineering education and new designers. From free product samples and lab racks, to technical assistance and learning seminars, the technology giant continues to make strides in supporting future engineers, designers, and now, gamers.

The new eSports and Drone Racing Clubs at Lake Area Technical College includes the latest in gaming systems and drones for racing. Würth Elektronik, the new financial partner for the program, has helped provide new technical equipment, computers, and sound systems for the program.

Students who compete must be full-time Lake Area Tech students and need to meet eligibility requirements. Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports or eSports) is a form of competition using video games. Esports often take the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually, or as teams.

Shane Swenson, Director of Outreach at Lake Area Technical College, says “With the rise of technology and video games this has brought out a competitive gaming scene in high schools, colleges, and at the professional level.”
