The Roots

All three global companies and partners have a long tradition in their business fields and identify themselves still today with their roots.

Würth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG is part of the Würth Group. Adolf Würth’s success story began in the mid-1920s, when he started visiting carpenters’ workshops and other companies to sell screws and fastening materials in the Hohenlohe region of southern Germany.

In 1945, with 20 years’ experience in this line of business, Adolf Würth established a wholesale firm supplying screws, nuts and bolts in Künzelsau. After his death in 1954, his 19-year-old son, Reinhold, took over the business, which employed two people at that time.

This year, in 2015, the Würth Group celebrates its 70th anniversary with more than 66.000 employees all over the world.

Audi (formerly known as “Horch”) was founded in April 1910 as one of the first german car manufacturers in the world. With a very long tradition and huge importance in the automobile sector Audi is proudly looking back on a great success story.

The Audi Group, with its brands Audi, Ducati and Lamborghini, is one of the most successful manufacturers of automobiles and motorcycles in the premium segment. It is present in more than 100 markets worldwide and produces at 16 locations in 12 countries. 100 percent subsidiaries of AUDI AG include Audi Sport GmbH (Neckarsulm, Germany), Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. (Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy) and Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. (Bologna, Italy).

The first motorsport activities of the Audi brand that was still young in those days took place at the end of the 1970s, billed as Audi Motorsport. When the brand entered the World Rally Championship the motorsport department was renamed Audi Sport in 1980 and the first Audi Sport logo created.

Even at that time, factory-backed motorsport was part of Technical Development.

This close connection guarantees the technology transfer between motorsport and production which has traditionally been a key reason for being active in motorsport on the highest level.

The success story of ABT begins in the year 1896, when Johann Abt founded a blacksmith’s shop in Kempten, in the Allgäu region of southern Germany.

His grandson competes in his first race on the Kempten grass track in 1950, followed by more than 300 motorsport victories.

ABT Tuning is founded 17 years later. ABT Sportsline GmbH is founded in 1991 by Christian and Hans-Jürgen Abt. In the same year, Christian Abt starts his successful career as driver among others in the DTM series. In 2009 Daniel Abt, son of Hans-Jürgen, starts his career and becomes one of the drivers in first Formula E season in 2014/2015 of the ABT Sportsline Formula E Team.
