Texas Instruments’ (TI) High Power IEEE802.3bt PoE PD featuring Wurth Electronics .bt LAN Transformer is set to “Light Up” APEC 2017

LED lighting is a very common technology in industrial, residential and commercial applications as it has the benefits of a longer operational life, higher energy efficiency and smaller form-factor. The ability to control these lighting ballasts in connected lighting applications has launched this system into the era of the Internet of Things (IoT).

With all these data-driven processes and analytics, Power over Ethernet (PoE) offers a convenient approach to delivering both data and electrical power to connected lighting devices, eliminating the need for other external power sources. Poised on the cusp of a significant inflection point, PoE technology is ready to enter the industrial market in new and exciting ways.

Expecting publication in 2018, the IEEE802.3bt standard, also known as 4-Pair PoE, will enable systems capable of delivering power at ~70W and broaden PoE's technology reach into new end equipment such as industrial controls and LED lighting.

For this year’s APEC conference, in Tampa, FL, Texas Instruments has partnered with Wurth Electronics to demonstrate an IEEE802.3bt compliant PoE PD system solution for smart lighting, where visitors can experience the countless IoT possibilities such as energy management, reactive room illumination, wayfinding, and alert/alarm systems. Visit Booth #811 on Tuesday, March 28 at 4:00pm and Wednesday, March 29 at 10:30am to hear the technical presentation regarding .bt PoE lighting considerations from Darwin Fernandez, PoE PD Applications Engineer.
