Management of Tolerances

For connections made to a PCB the following challenges must be taken into account:

  • the thermal expansion of a PCB that is subjected to changes in temperature
  • process-determined tolerances of the contacting pair. In connectors these are normally e.g. grid tolerances, while on PCBs they are tolerances in the end diameter of the plated through holes or, again, grid tolerances in hole patterns.

Because of its dual spring principle the SKEDD contact is capable of compensating for grid tolerances both in the PCB holes and also in the plastic body of a connector.
