1996

  • Würth Solergy: Start of the first photovoltaic activities under the umbrella of the Würth Elektronik Group 
     
  • Sale of grid-connected photovoltaic systems in Germany and stand-alone systems, in India for example

1999

2000

  • Installation of the pilot line in the former EnBW coal-fired power station in Marbach/Neckar
     
  • The first production line for CIS solar modules is put into operation

2001

  • Continuous optimisation of the manufacturing technology 
     
  • Implementation of the first large applications - solar tower in Heilbronn and primary school in Ludwigsburg

2002

  • Important goals, such as process stability, efficiency and yield exceed expectations. Around 2,800 CIS modules leave the production line
     
  • Implementation of prestigious projects, such as the head office of Würth Elektronik eiSos Waldenburg and Würth Holding Chur/Switzerland, where the advantages of CIS technology become very evident

2003

  • Increase in nominal capacity to around 1.2 MW p/a through investment in a second CIS plant
     
  • Start of the second production line for CIS solar modules

2005

  • Cornerstone laid for CISfab, the world's first factory for large-scale production of CIS solar modules

2006

  • Opening of CISfab in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany
     
  • Start of the world's first large-scale production of CIS solar modules, called GeneCIS  
     
  • Foundation of Würth Elektronik Research

2007

  • Full utilisation of CISfab with a capacity of 15 MW; daily production of 550 modules

2008

  • July: Expansion to 30 MW production capacity completed; that corresponds to an annual output of 350,000 GeneCIS solar modules
